Manhattan Transfer ran a clinic at Butler University, in which Michael had the opportunity to participate in. MT used Butler's Jordan Jazz as clinic examples, a group that Michael accompanied at the time. MT not only focused on the jazz vocals, but the accompaniment as well, in which Michael was praised by member Janis Seigel for outstanding chordal divisions and rythym.
